Know all men by these presents, that we William Scott and Robert Hemmings are held and firmly bound with James Barbour Governor or Chief Magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars; for the payment whereof, well and truly to be made to the said Governor or his successors, for the use of the said Commonwealth, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by the presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 28th day of August 1812.
The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas a marriage is intended to be shortly had and solemnized between William Scott (Batchelor) above bound, and Elizabeth Hemmings (spinster) daughter of the said Rot Hemmings. Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said intended marriage, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
